About OpenCommerceIndex
OpenCommerceIndex is an open project so people can find shopping options through the assistant they already use, and so stores, large or small, can be found by agents without depending on a platform.
Principles
- Open. Data under CC0 1.0 and code under Apache 2.0, all on GitHub, with a public history of every change.
- No intermediaries. No servers of ours sit between you and the store. Prices are looked up live and purchases happen at the store.
- Honest. Profiles say what was verified and what was not. An access failure never becomes "they do not sell it".
- Neutral. We charge nothing for listing or ranking. The assistant decides how to present results.
- Respectful. We follow
robots.txtand each site's limits, and we copy no catalogs.
Coverage
We start with real stores in Uruguay, chosen and verified by hand. Each new country launches when it has enough verified stores to answer representative searches. We do not invent stores to inflate numbers.
Who maintains it
It is maintained by Ignacio Larrañaga with the community contributing on GitHub. Editorial decisions are documented in the editorial policy.
